Southern Ocean Roads Targeted In Shore Traffic Safety Detail This Week

Barnegat, Stafford and Long Beach Island towns are the target of this month's Goal: Zero traffic safety detail.

SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — If you're driving to the beach this week, you might notice more police out than usual. That's part of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office's Goal: Zero traffic enforcement program.

Barnegat, Stafford and Long Beach Island police chiefs announced that his agency one of many in the county participating in the traffic detail from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 31, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

This high-visibility county-wide traffic enforcement detail is set to address the rise in traffic deaths in New Jersey. As of July 23, 2025, 299 people have lost their lives on New Jersey roadways; 30 of those deaths have occurred in Ocean County, according to officials.

“Our mission is not to maximize citations, but to minimize loss of life. Goal: Zero serves as a means to achieve safer roadways, with the ultimate goal of reaching zero fatalities and serious injuries. Every life saved is the true measure of success of this initiative,” Billhimer said.

This Thursday, it's Jersey Shore roadways that are being targeted. The Goal: Zero initiative is held the last Thursday of every month from March to September.

Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky was the catalyst behind the 2024 Goal: Zero campaign, which brought together 36 municipalities to target dangerous driving behaviors.
