Summer officially starts on Saturday, June 21, but Barnegat and Manahawkin have already seen the heat. Forecasts say it could reach 95 degrees today in Barnegat, and 90 in Manahawkin.
According to Weather.com, temperatures reached 94 in Barnegat yesterday, which is 14 degrees above the average for this time of year. They predict the heat wave will break with a thunderstorm tomorrow.
Last year's July heat wave (approximately July 16-19) drew tourists from Northern Jersey towns and the Philadelphia area to the Jersey Shore. Temperatures in several towns throughout New Jersey were hotter than those in Death Valley, California, according to the Star Ledger: 110 degrees in some places.
