Traffic Safety Detail To Focus On Barnegat-Manahawkin Roads This Week

Barnegat, Stafford, LBI towns and more will be the focus of this month's Goal: Zero traffic safety detail.

BARNEGAT-MANAHAWKIN, NJ — You may notice an increased police presence on local roads this Thursday as part of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office's Goal: Zero traffic enforcement program.

Barnegat Township Police Chief Jason Carroll and Stafford Township Police Chief James Haldenwang announced that their agencies are among many in the county participating in the traffic detail from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 28, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. Long Beach Island towns are also participating.

“Every life lost on our roads represents someone’s family, friend, or neighbor. This enforcement effort is about protecting our community and ensuring that everyone gets home safely,” Billhimer said.

This high-visibility county-wide traffic enforcement detail is set to address the rise in traffic deaths in New Jersey. As of Aug. 22, 2025, 355 people have lost their lives on New Jersey roadways; 38 of those deaths have occurred in Ocean County, according to officials.

This Thursday, it's Jersey Shore roadways that are being targeted. The Goal: Zero initiative is held the last Thursday of every month from March to September.

Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky was the catalyst behind the 2024 Goal: Zero campaign, which brought together 36 municipalities to target dangerous driving behaviors.
