It was a sad day when Grub City announced its abrupt closure, but the sadness didn't last long as it was quickly announced that Toms River favorite Big Dogs Café would be opening a second location in its place. They serve a variety of hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches, and you won't want to miss their stacked milkshakes.

The Sweet Shack (1035 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville)

This was a good year for locals with a sweet tooth. After Miss Mindy's moved down the street, the Sweet Shack took over its old location, with a menu full of one-of-a-kind ice cream flavors. The shop also has vegan flavors and no added sugar options, along with coffee drinks and refreshers.

Doo Wop Dogs (Across from Shady Rest, 821 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville)

Hot dog! If it was a good year for those with a sweet tooth, it was even better for hot dog fans. This stand, operated in Edison for 20 years, came to Bayville this year when the commute was too much for owner Cheryl Lee, a Holiday Heights resident. Not only can you try a variety of toppings, you can also enjoy music as you eat.

Wunder Wiener (108 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville)

After years of waiting, it's finally back! Once again, you can chow down on Bayville's favorite Italian hot dogs. While Wunder Wiener isn't a new business, its return was gladly welcomed by residents, and it was definitely a highlight of the year for those who were eagerly waiting to enjoy this classic stand again.
