Route 9 Reopened In Bayville After Accident That Injured 87-Year-Old Woman

The portion of Route 9 between Serpentine and Harbor Inn Road has reopened, mayor says

Route 9 in Bayville has reopened after an accident Thursday afternoon that injured an elderly woman and snapped a utility pole in half, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

The section of Route 9 between Serpentine Drive and Harbor Inn Road reopened early Friday morning.

The 87-year-old Bayville was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

The impact snapped the main transmission pole utility police in half and the women's vehicle flipped over.
Jersey Central Power and Light crews were on the scene to deal with the damaged pole, which resulted in a temporary forced outage, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Roughly 249 residents were affected in the Floral Avenue-Lily Street area. Power was restored at 8:10 p.m., the mayor said.

Berkeley EMS and Bayville Fire Department members responded.

The accident still under investigation by the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who has information is asked to call 732-341-1132 x2125.
