Adele Frances Theresa Hanusey Of Ocean Gate Dies At 97

Services for the "ultimate wife and mother" will be held on Friday and Saturday.

Adela Frances Theresa (nee Mackunas) Hanusey, 97, of OceanGgate died on Feb. 19, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Philadelphia on Dec. 5, 1919. She was the daughter of Joseph and Adele Mackunas, and sister to John, who died in 1981. She lived in Philadelphia for 75 years before retiring to Ocean Gate, NJ, where she summered since 1948.

Adela graduated from Kensington High School and attended the Philadelphia Normal School where she met her beloved husband of 59 years, Richard, who predeceased her in 2003.

Adela was the ultimate mother and homemaker. In addition to her many artistic talents, she was an accomplished cook, seamstress, gardener, and hostess. She also worked outside the home for the Philadelphia Electric Co. and for the Philadelphia school district for 15 years as an instructional media assistant. Adela's most treasured vocation was promoting and supporting her husband, Richard, in his chosen profession and many vocations. She was very active in her church and with the Boy Scouts while raising her family.

Adela's memory will be treasured by her three surviving children: Gina (Rich Grebb), Gregory (Theresa), and Adela (Chris Van Name), grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Three children predeceased her: Richard Alexander, Richard Dmytro and Celestine.

There will be a viewing at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville on Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m, on Feb. 24. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Steven's Ukrainian Church, 1344 White Oak Bottom Rd., Toms River . Burial will be Saturday at 1 p.m.at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fox Chase, Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Stephen's Ukrainian Catholic Church or to the charity of your choice.
