Alfred “Bobby” Alonzo, 66, of Ocean Gate, died peacefully on Jan. 27, 2018 after a tough battle with heart disease.
Born in Lakewood, he was a lifelong resident of Ocean Gate. Mr. Alonzo attended the Ocean Gate Elementary School and was a 1970 graduate of Central Regional High School. He worked as a mason with his Uncle Walter before his employment with the Ocean County Buildings and Grounds Department.

Bobby became Senior Maintenance worker, known as “Babo”, in charge of safety, cleanliness and maintenance of the Sheriff Department’s “CIU” Room and Radio Room for more than 35 years of service.
He proudly served his community as a fireman and was a lifelong member of the Ocean Gate Fire Department with almost 50 years of dedicated service. He also was a lifetime member of the Ocean Gate Historical Society and formerly served as a driver for the First Aid Squad. He was a member of Ocean County Fish and Game and the Ocean Gate Republican Club.

Bobby loved hunting in his youth, boating on Barnegat Bay with his skiff "Barnegat Bob.” He was a Yankee fan, loved TV Land old shows, rub-off lottery tickets and daily honored the “American Flag.” He was predeceased by his mother, Edna in 1998 and many relatives and friends whom he loved so much.
Surviving are; his father Alfred and his sister Aileen Alonzo. He is also survived by many family, friends, co-workers, Ocean Gators whom he loved and were special to him.
Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. The funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River.
