Beachwood Woman Dies in Pine Beach Accident

Mary Arneth's car veered off Route 9 at the intersection with Lee Boulevard and struck a utility pole, police chief says

PINE BEACH, NJ - The cause of an accident that took the life of a Beachwood woman in a single-car over the weekend on Route 9 North is still under investigation, Pine Beach Police Chief Matthew Petrecca said.

Mary Arneth, 78, was airlifted to Community Medical Center on Jan. 27 after the 8:30 a.m. accident. Arneth was traveling north on Route 9 near Lee Boulevard when her 2012 Toyota veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole, the chief said.

The accident is under investigation by the FAST Team, an initiative developed by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office made up of officers around the county who specialize in motor vehicle investigations.

Pine Beach police are still waiting for final medical report, the chief said.

Traffic on Route 9 had to be detoured around the accident scene for 18 hours so utility crews could work to replace the pole, Petrecca said.

Members of the Beachwood Police Department, the Pine Beach Fire Department and MONOC assisted, the chief said.
