In the past, Berkeley's Trick or Treat night has been held on Oct. 30, giving Berkeley kids and other children who live along the Toms River the chance to either participate in or attend the Toms River Halloween parade.

But Berkeley broke with tradition several years ago and went with the Oct. 31 date for Trick or Treat night.

However, Berkeley will still hold its "Trick or Trunk" event from noon to 2 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the parking lot of the Berkeley Township Elementary School, the mayor said.

"It really is a safe way for kids to get dressed up in costumes," Amato said.
