During the murder investigation, a forensic examination by the OCPO's High Tech Crime Unit found images of child pornography on Grenci’s phone. A second search warrant was obtained to allow for the search of Grenci’s phone specifically for child pornography.

A thorough examination of Grenci’s phone recovered over 1,000 images of child pornography, according to authorities.

“We were initially examining Grenci’s phone for evidence relative to the Murder investigation," Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement. "Upon discovering evidence of another, independent crime, specifically Possession of Child Pornography, Detectives from our High Tech Crime Unit sought an additional search warrant and uncovered over 1000 images of Child Pornography. Grenci was charged accordingly and served with a copy of his complaint today in the Ocean County Jail."

Grenci has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since Nov. 16.

Grenci, who has an extensive criminal history, had been released from his most recent prison sentence in February for a May 2016 conviction on robbery and theft charges.

He also gained national attention in May 2004, when he was profiled on "America's Most Wanted" in connection with an August 2002 fight at an apartment in Berkeley Township, where he and another man were accused of aggravated assault and burglary, according to a document summarizing the case.
