Berkeley Police Investigating Recent Motor Vehicle Thefts

All the vehicles were unlocked, thefts occurred on the border with Ocean Gate, police chief says

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Berkeley police are investigating recent thefts from unlocked vehicles on the township's border near Ocean Gate, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Patrolman Michael Connell responded to the area of Narragansett and Long Branch avenues on Jan. 13 on a report of motor vehicle entries. Victims told police that sometime during the overnight hours someone had entered their vehicles and stolen personal items, including cash, the chief said.

None of the vehicles were damaged and all were unlocked, she said.

"Residents are reminded to always lock their vehicle doors as these are frequent targets of opportunity for would be thieves," DiMichele said. "Valuables should always be keep in a safe and secure place other than a vehicle."
