Berkeley Residents Can Benefit From Solar Farm: Here's How
Residents can sign up to get energy from the solar farms built on a former landfill.
BERKELEY, NJ — Last year, a solar farm project was completed on the old landfill behind the Public Works building. Now, residents are able to take advantage of the energy produced.
A representative from Think Energy, Jim Kenny, spoke at a recent Township Council meeting to share how residents can sign up for the community solar project.

The program is good for 500 residential homes and 500 low-to-moderate income homes. This is for people in section eight housing or who are on food stamps.
"Rooftop solar is wonderful," Kenny acknowledged. "The problem that the state saw was that the low-to-moderate income people, the people that rent their homes, don't get the benefit from rooftop solar because they don't own their home."
The program is free to enroll and participants can opt out at any time with no fees. If you move, as long as you are within Berkeley or a bordering town, you'll still receive the benefits.
