Bicyclist Dies In Berkeley After He Was Hit By Van

The accident happened Saturday afternoon on Forest Hills Parkway, Prosecutor's Office says

BERKELEY, NJ - A 76-year-old bicyclist from Bayville man Saturday afternoon after he was struck by a car on Forest Hills Parkway, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

The accident happened at 2:32 p.m., just east of the Veterans Park entrance, said spokesman Al Della Fave.

The bicyclist, whose name has not been released, apparently turned from the shoulder of the roadway into the passenger side of a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by Harold Bennett, 85, Lanoka Harbor, Della Fave said.

The man was taken to Community Medical Center, where he died from his injuries at 3:17 p.m., he said.

"Mr. Bennett remained on scene and exhibited no signs of impairment," Della Fave said. "He did not have a cell phone at the time of the crash. Additionally, a witness traveling behind Bennett's vehicle remained on scene and corroborated how the accident took place."
