Township Officials Launch "If You See Something, Say Something" Initiative

Don't hesitate to notify Berkeley Township police if you see something that doesn't seem right.

Township officials have launched the "If You See Something, Say Something" initiative urging residents to call police immediately if they see something that seems suspicious, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Police will soon be posting information on billboards and signs throughout the township's 42 square miles and also on social media and Nixle, the mayor said.

"Every resident can assist by being the eyes and ears of our community," Amato said.

Amato credited Township Councilman James J. Byrnes with suggesting the initiative. Byrnes is the Ward 1 representative.

"I have seen this program in other parts of the state," he said. "I communicated the idea to Mayor Amato and Chief DiMichele and they immediately embraced it. "I want to thank them for pushing this ahead."

The new program is in addition to Berkeley's existing "Tip Line," Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Residents can leave their name and address or report the information anonymously at 732-341-1132, ext. 611, or e-mail detective@btpdnj.org.
