Central Regional Athletes Win 24 Special Olympic Medals
Four student-athletes earned gold medals, competing in the 50-meter run, 100-meter run and softball throw.

BERKELEY, NJ — Central Regional's Special Olympics athletes brought home plenty of hardware from last weekend's New Jersey Summer Games. The students earned 24 medals, participating in the 50-meter run, 100-meter run and softball throw.
The following athletes earned medals:
- Ashley Soltis: Bronze medal, 6th place medal
- Victoria Gries: Gold medal, 8th place medal
- Joe Capoziello: gold Medal, 4th place medal
- Tommy Swift: two 4th place medals
- John Meola: Gold medal, bronze medal
- James Cifello: two 5th place medals
- Jeremy Todd: Silver medal, 8th place medal
- Darrin Charles: Gold medal, bronze medal
- William Green: Bronze medal, 5th place medal
- Jada Lewis: Bronze medal, 5th place medal
- Thatcher Pero: 4th place medal, 5th place medal
- Ryan Daley: Gold medal, 5th place medal

The "Flame of Hope" also passed through Berkeley last weekend during the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. More than 3,000 New Jersey officers jogged through the streets on the 26-leg journey around the state. The torch run culminated Friday night at the Summer Games Opening Ceremony at TCNJ.
