Central Regional's Babino Breaks School Track Record

BERKELEY, N.J. — Central Regional teams and athletes accomplished several notable accolades last week. Here's the latest from the Golden Eagles:

Central Regional runner Jessica Babino broke a school record Friday in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. The track athlete finished at 8:37.26, breaking Jordan Bethune's record from 2016.

The softball team defeated Toms River North, 5-4, in unusual fashion Friday. Samantha Rullo stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning for a Golden Eagles walk-off victory.

Rullo reached on a walk in the final inning with the game tied, 4-4. She was batted over to third. Then she slid home after a pitch was lost under the catcher's glove.

Mackenzie Hart batted 2-for-3 with two RBI. Colleen Kelly also posted two RBI.

The girls golf team has started the season 11-0. Central Regional defeated Toms River South, 219-227, Thursday. Victoria Mines led the way for the Golden Eagles with 43 strokes. Briana Boyd (46), Jean Bustamante (62) and Mackenzie Billhiemer (68) also posted top finishes.
