Coastal Monmouth Beach Report For July 12, 2017

Mostly cloudy skies with possible showers and thunderstorms on tap at the beach for today.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies today at Ocean County beaches with scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Highs will be in the mid-80s, with southwest winds at 10 miles per hour.

There's a low risk of rip currents today, but rips are still possible near jetties and other structures. Always swim on a guarded beach and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you bring a flotation device with you when you go in the water.

Waves will be around 3 to 4 feet, with southerly swells of three feet. The ocean water temperature has now warmed up to 71 degrees, almost 10 degrees warmer than a few weeks ago

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. The lightning threat is moderate, which means that thunderstorms are possible.

High tide at Belmar will roll in at 10:11 a.m. Low tide will arrive at 4:07 p.m, followed by another tide at 10:17 p.m.
