How Does Scrubbing Reduce Stinging Bay Nettles? Learn At Ocean Gate Event

The Berkeley Township Underwater Search and Rescue invites Barnegat Bay residents to "Stop The Stings At The Ocean Gate Boardwalk."

OCEAN GATE, NJ — To help all Barnegat Bay communities understand how scrubbing for jellyfish abatement is being used in citizen initiatives, the Berkeley Township Underwater Search and Rescue team is hosting "Stop the Stings at the Ocean Gate Boardwalk" on May 3 and 4.

The dive team's "Stop the Sting" program has been successful in Barnegat Bay communities in reducing the population of bay nettles, a stinging jellyfish common in the bay and lagoons. Read more: 'Stop The Sting' Jellyfish Study Offers Hope For NJ Bay, Lagoon Users

On May 3, the dive team will demonstrate jellyfish abatement scrubbing techniques starting at 10 a.m. through midday.

And on May 4, citizen jellyfish nest scrubbing will be held from 9 a.m. to dusk, led by the dive team, at the Yacht Club, Pier 1, Beach Prisms and Pier 2 sites.
