Dr. Walter E. Corrigan, Former Longtime Ocean County Medical Examiner, Dies At 94

Services for World War II and Korean War veteran, former chief of staff at Community Medical Center will be held on Friday.

Dr. Walter Elliott Corrigan of Huffman, Texas formerly of Toms River New Jersey passed away August 27, 2017 at his home.

Walter was born on October 20, 1922 to Frank and Mae Corrigan of Hoboken N.J.

He was predeceased in death by his beloved first wife, Helen Frances, son John,and three grandchildren Steven, Michael and Kathleen Corrigan.

Walter is survived by his wife Antoinette, five sons, Edmund Esq; Rev. Mr. Walter Jr; David Esq; Dr. Francis and Robert, four stepchildren Dr. Teresa Maharaj, Mark Dawson, four stepchildren Dr. Teresa Maharaj, Mark Dawson, Frederick and Michelle Kane. He was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He served his country in the Army Medical Corp during World War II. After discharge he attended Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia Pa. where he received M.D. and H.M.D degrees.

He was recalled during the Korean War and served as Captai. Of Medical Groups in the United States Air Force. When he was discharged, he entered private practice in Toms River, New Jersey.

He served as a member of the Board of Trustees and President of the Medical-Dental Staff at Community Medical Center, Toms River, also served as President of the O.C. Medical Society and Delegate to the N.J Medical Society.

He was the Ocean County Medical Examiner from 1970 until retirement in 1990, and also the chief medical officer for the Ocean County Jail from 1970 to 1984.

Walter was a member of the Ocean County Medical Society, N.J Medical Society, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Toms River, New Jersey.

He became a devout parishioner St. Philip the Apostle R.C. church in Huffman, Texas after he moved to Texas.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals, 412 Main St. Toms River, NJ 08753. Mass will follow at 12:15 PM at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Toms River.
