Driver And Passenger Injured In One-Car Crash In Bayville Involving Utility Pole

Traffic was closed on Route 9 after accident and rerouted to Bayview Avenue, police chief says

BERKELEY TOWSHIP, NJ - Two people were injured in a one-car crash in Bayville on Monday afternoon when their car struck a utility pole on Route 9 after the driver lost control of the vehicle, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Berkeley police officers responded to the area of Route 9 and Buckley Lane. Preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Route 9 near the intersection of Buckley Lane, when the driver lost control and hit the pole, the chief said.

The driver had laceration injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with moderate injuries.

Traffic on Route 9 was closed in both directions and was rerouted to Bayview Avenue. The state Department of Transportation was contacted to assist with traffic, the chief said.

Members of the Bayville Fire Department, Beachwood and Lanoka Harbor First Aid also responded to assist.
Jersey Central Power and Light and Verizon responded to secure the pole, pending repairs, DiMichele said.
