Father Swan Reunited With A Family Member

The mother and four other baby swans were run over on Bayview Avenue in August.

BAYVILLE, NJ - The father swan who floated forlornly at the edge of a lagoon waiting for his family who were killed off Bayview Avenue recently has been reunited with his son from several years ago.

Resident Donna Matusik has posted several photos of the father swan and his son. They have show up in some of the Glen Cove lagoon areas over the past week, she said.

She knows the younger swan is the father's son from about four years ago, Matusik said.

"I know the swan was his baby about four years ago," she said. "He had a bump on his head."

Neighbors in this lagoon community in the Glen Cove section of the township were thrilled to see that father swan and his grown son had reunited. Many immediately began feeding the two, Matusik said.

The father swan is the only remaining member of his most recent family. The mother swan and four of her babies were mowed down by someone on Bayview Avenue over Labor Day weekend.

There is still a reward for anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever killed the family. As of last count, the reward amount was up to $2,750.

"This horrifying incident happened between Sunday and Monday (Labor Day weekend) when the swan family was crossing Bayview Avenue in Bayville, NJ," the organization's Facebook page states. "A local resident that knew the swan family well came across the bodies of the mother and youngsters. It's quite clear that a motorist deliberately drove over the family and we can only hope that these poor birds did not suffer and died quickly."

Associated Humane is asking anyone with information to contact them at 609-693-1900.
