Former Central Regional Football Coach Takes Helm In Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The new head coach of a Florida high school's football team is one of Central Regional's own. Former Golden Eagles coach Walter Ramsay took the helm at Melbourne Central Catholic High School, the school announced April 17.

Ramsay coached high school football in New Jersey for 37 years. He was already part of Melbourne Central Catholic's staff when they needed a head coach. The school received close to 90 résumés and conducted multiple interviews.

It turned out they didn't need to look far for their new head coach. Ramsay is excited to take the helm.

"We will strive to not only have our sons’ learn and grow as football players but more importantly as young men,” Ramsay said in a statement.

Ramsay graduated St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York with a BS in education. He earned a master's degree in school administration from Monmouth University. He holds several several teaching certificates in New Jersey and Florida.

We are thrilled for him and know he will do GREAT things for his players and the program, just like he did for so many years here at CR."

"I played for Coach Walt Ramsay over 30 years ago!!" said Keith Applegate. "I still think about how awesome of a coach he was and am happy to call him my friend today. If I could, I’d play for him today! You have a winner on your hands!"

"I had coach ramsey in high school," said Paul Minialga. "He is a Wonderful teacher and coach."

"He was the best coach I ever had," said Dean Longo.
