Good Luck Point Area Access To Be Restricted During Culvert Work
The replacement culvert work will start on Oct. 1 and run until Oct. 29

BAYVILLE, NJ Sections of Bayview Avenue near the Good Luck Point area in Bayville will be closed for much of October to allow for the replacement of a culvert that runs under Bayview Avenue, township officials said.
Bayview Avenue between Lavallette Avenue and Lake Drive will be closed starting around Oct. 1 and lasting until Oct. 29.
Replacing the culvert will increase the amount of tidal flow to the marshlands on the west side of Bayviewl Avenue, said Virginia Rettig, the director of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refue.

There will be no access on the route during the closure, even during non-construction periods like nights and weekends, she said.
“The culverts in place now allow water into that marsh, but allow tide waters to recede too slowly," Retti said. "That keeps water on the marsh for too long and over many years this excess flooding has killed marsh vegetation and made the site waterlogged. A larger culvert will allow this water to move off the marsh more quickly.”

Traffic signs will be installed along Bayview Avenue, Veeder Lane and Ocean Gate Drive for the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic as well as safety of the crew in the work zone. All businesses along Bayview Avenue will remain open during the road closure, she said.
The project was approved by Berkeley Township and Ocean County and will be conducted in accordance with land-use permits issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
