Harry Kurry, World War II Vet, Longtime Firefighter, Dies At 90

Services will be held on Sunday and Monday

Harry Kurry of Seaside Park, NJ, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was 90.

Born in Orange, he lived in East Orange and summered in Seaside Park from 1961 until moving there permanently in 1973. He was also a resident in Holiday City, Berkeley Township.

Harry was a United States Navy WWII veteran. He served on the USS New Jersey battleship.

He was a longtime firefighter for the East Orange Fire Department for 37 years,. He retired in 1992.

Prior to serving as a firefighter, Harry was owner of Little People Photography in East Orange for 8 years.

He was a parishioner of St. Catharine of Siena R.C. Church, Seaside Park, and was a member of the Ground Swipers Gun Club in Lacey, NJ and the Hunter Club in Whiting, NJ.

Harry was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Ann, in 2012, and his day-old son and daughter, Joseph and Mary.

He is survived by his four children, Nancee Lee Nevins of Barnegat, NJ, Susan Graham and her husband Douglas of Forked River, NJ, Gerard Kurry and his wife Theresa of Toms River, Mary Anne Pastore and her husband Matt of Chester, VA, his sister Dottie Gaul of Brick, NJ, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A funeral service will held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
