Juvenile Airlifted After 2-Car Dirt Bike Crash In Berkeley: Police
The juvenile, riding a non-street legal dirt bike at night without headlights, was hit by a turning car and crashed into a Jeep, police say.
BERKELEY, NJ — A juvenile was airlifted with life-threatening injuries following a dirt bike crash Thursday night at the intersection of Route 9 and Serpentine Drive in Bayville, Berkeley Township police said.
The July 10 crash involved the dirt bike and two cars, police said.
The juvenile was riding a Kawasaki dirt bike at a high speed and passing drivers on the shoulder of Route 9 southbound, according to the investigation.

This dirt bike was not street legal and was being used at night without headlights, police said.
A 2016 Kia Rio driving north on Route 9 began to turn left onto Serpentine Drive when the child entered the intersection, police said. The car struck the dirt bike, causing it to crash into a 2021 Jeep Compass that was stopped at a stop sign, police said.

The child was severely injured and was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. An update on the juvenile's condition was not available.
Both other vehicles were damaged, but no other injuries were reported, police said.
Investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
