Lakewood Fatal: 3-Year-Old Girl Riding Bike Hit By Truck, Pronounced Dead At the Scene

LAKEWOOD - A 3-year-old girl who pulled out of her driveway on her bicycle on 7th Avenue this afternoon was struck and killed by a Ford F550 truck, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

The little girl was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:33 p.m. by paramedics, said spokesman Al Della Fave.

The preliminary investigation by the Lakewood Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Major Crime Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Sheriff's CSI Unit indicated the driver of the truck, a Lakewood man, was heading east on 7th Street when the child rode directly into the path of the truck, Della Fave said.

The driver gave police consent to search his cell phone, which yielded negative results. He was taken to Monmouth Medical Center, where he gave permission for a blood sample, he said.

"This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released upon confirmation and completion of family notifications," Della Fave said.
