Lost Kayaker Rescued From Double Trouble State Park: Police

The man called police to tell them he was lost in the woods before losing phone contact, Berkeley police said.

BERKELEY, NJ — Berkeley police rescued a kayaker who was lost Monday evening in Double Trouble State Park, according to a news release.

Officers were dispatched to the park at 8:36 p.m. Aug. 25 after the man had called 911 saying he was lost and dragging his kayak through the woods, police said. Phone contact was lost.

Police then obtained coordinates from the 911 call and found that the man's last contact was about one half-mile south of the 10th hole on the Cedar Creek Golf Course.

A coordinated effort to locate the man was launched. The Berkeley Township police drone was deployed and the man was located.

The missing man also had two people out in the woods searching for him, police said. The drone pilot saw the duo on the drone's thermal camera and guided them out of the woods.

No one was injured, police said.
