Man Shoots Neighbors, Then Takes His Own Life In Bayville: Prosecutor

John Adamo, 54, shot the husband and wife and then was found dead after a two-and-a-half hour standoff with police, officials said.

BERKELEY, NJ — A Bayville man shot his Berkeley Shores neighbors, a husband and wife duo, and then took his own life after a standoff with police, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

John Adamo, 54, shot his next door neighbors Monday evening shortly before 5 p.m., Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. Adamo shot the man while he was outside of his Drake Drive home, Billhimer said, and then shot into the house, striking the man's wife.

Adamo then went back inside his own home, Billhimer said. A motive for the shooting was not given.

The husband and wife were airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where they are in critical, but stable, condition, Billhimer said.

The Ocean County SWAT Team surrounded Adamo's home in an attempt to get him to surrender. After about two-and-a-half hours, they entered the home and found Adamo dead in the upstairs bedroom, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Billhimer said.

A pressure cooker was also found in the bedroom and the neighboring homes were evacuated; however, it was determined to not be a bomb, Billhimer said.
