Motorcyclist Tears Through Park During Festival: Berkeley Police

The 18-year-old motorcyclist sped around Veterans Park, ignoring police attempts to stop him, while an event was going on, police said.

BERKELEY, NJ — An 18-year-old from Beachwood was charged with eluding after he rode his motorcycle around Veterans Park in Bayville in a "reckless manner" during a food truck festival, Berkeley police said.

It was about 4 p.m. on Aug. 30 when Dominick P. Schena rode his motorcycle through the park, which was packed with pedestrians and vehicle traffic from those attending the ongoing festival, police said.

Multiple uniformed police officers in marked patrol vehicles saw Schena riding around. Despite multiple attempts to stop Schena, using emergency lights, sirens and hand signals, he didn't stop, police said. Schena eluded the officers and fled the park.

Berkeley police shared images of Schena on Facebook and asked for the public's assistance in identifying him. That post was widely shared and Schena ended up voluntarily surrendering himself to the Berkeley Township Police Department shortly after, police said.

Schena was charged with eluding; due to his low Public Safety Assessment score he was released on a summons, police said.
