A Nearly Perfect Beach Day On Tap For Coastal Ocean County

Sunny skies, a low rip current risk, but surf temperatures are still below normal.

The National Weather Service is calling for beautiful weather on the second day of the holiday weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures in the lower 80s.

The rip current risk is low. But rips are always possible, especially near jetties and other structures. Always swim near lifeguards and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you always bring a flotation device with you when you go in the water.

Waves will be four feet high, with southeast swells of two to three feet. The surf temperature is still very chilly at 63 degrees.Winds will be from the west at five miles per hour, switching over to the south in the afternoon.

The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the National Weather Service considers very high, so bring the sunscreen. There is no lightning threat today.

Island Beach State Park, Barnegat Light State Park and all state parks remain closed today due to the budget impasse. But municipal beaches in coastal towns up and down the state are still open.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet rolled in at 9:41 p.m.. High tide will arrive at 3:51 p.m. followed by another low tided at 1015 p.m.
