Groundbreaking Set For Berkeley's First-Ever 'Veterans Village'

The new Veterans Village, built by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, aims to break the cycle of veteran homelessness.

BERKELEY, NJ — All are invited to the groundbreaking for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's first Veterans Village in New Jersey, part of the foundation's aim of eliminating veteran homelessness.

A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on May 7 at the upcoming Veterans Village site: 539 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. According to Mayor John Bacchione, there will be about 150 parking spots on site, and shuttles will be available starting at 9:45 a.m. from the Berkeley Township Recreation Building and the Bayville Volunteer Fire Company.

When completed in 2026, the Bayville Veterans Village will feature 98 single-occupancy apartments and 24 stand-alone comfort homes exclusively for America's veterans, according to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The village offers more than just housing. The ground floor of the apartment complex features support services like job training, legal services, benefits assistance, education assistance, and mental health support and counseling.

Plus, residents can enjoy a gym, workforce development center, multipurpose room, game room, and lounges.

Its location is near the new VA hospital in Toms River for further accommodations.

In 2022, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation launched the Homeless Veteran Program, a national campaign aimed at eradicating veteran homelessness nationwide. This program provides a stable home and a wide range of needed services to diagnose and solve the root causes of veteran homelessness, addressing a veteran’s specific emotional, financial, and physical needs.

To date, Tunnel to Towers has provided housing assistance and access to supportive services to over 10,000 Veterans and their families throughout Veteran Villages across the country and the National Case Management Network.
