Next To Last Weekend For Lifeguards At Island Beach State Park
Guards will be on duty, but whether you can go swimming depends on rip current risk

ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK - The beginning of October marks the end of guarded beaches at Island Beach State Park until next Memorial Day.
Guards will be on duty on at Bathing Beach 1 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 1, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.
But whether anyone will be able to actually go swimming this weekend is doubtful. The rip current risk from Hurricane Jose has been high all week and will likely be high over the weekend. Never swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night.

An Asbury Park woman died after she and a companion swam in the rough surf on Thursday. Many others have died on New Jersey beaches this summer because they went in when they shouldn't have.
