No Swimming Allowed: Check Out Rainy Day Activities In Southern Ocean

SOUTHERN OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — It's rainy. Hurricane Erin is churning up the surf. All in all, it's not a great time to be at the beach. But if you are, no worries - there's still plenty of things to do.

Friday looks to be sunny, so you can lay out on the beach (if the lifeguards allow). Otherwise, here's more activities you can enjoy.

Visit an arcade

Enjoy classic games like skeeball or crane games, or try something new at Fantasy Island Amusement Park in Beach Haven, which offers a 12,000 square foot arcade. Or, head over the bridge to Manahawkin for The Mainland's arcade, with pinball, classic arcade games and more. You can also visit Thunderbird Lanes in Manahawkin for a day of bowling.

Spend time at the library

The Ocean County Library has plenty of branches and offers more than just books. Events, classes and shows are all options here, too. Check out their calendar for more.

Shop at local businesses

There are so many great small businesses in the area to support. Clothing boutiques, candy shops, toy stores and more are available both on and off Long Beach Island. Spend the day at Bay Village and Schooner's Wharf and explore all the shops they have to offer.

Catch a show

Eat and drink at restaurants and breweries

A rainy day is the perfect time to spend a while at your favorite eatery, or to check out something new. Waterfront restaurants allow you to watch the choppy waves from a safe spot. Sit and sip at a local brewery like Oyster Creek Brewing Company (Waretown), ManaFirkin Brewing Company (Manahawkin), Ship Bottom Brewery (Beach Haven) or Pinelands Brewing Company (Little Egg Harbor).
