Ocean County Beach Report: Sunny And Cool

Rip current risk drops to moderate, cool temperatures prevail today.

The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies with a moderate risk of rip currents, a much better forecast than the last several days.

Waves today will be 2 to 3 feet, with southeasterly swells of 2 feet. The ocean water temperature is 71 degrees.

If you can find a guarded beach, be sure to check with local beach patrols before heading in. Never swim on an unguarded beach, and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you always bring a flotation device with you in the water.

If you really have to go swimming, Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island will have guards on the Middlesex Avenue Beach on weekdays through Sunday, Sept. 31. Guards will also be on duty on weekends at the Middlesex Avenue and 80th Street beaches through the rest of the month.

Highs today will only be in the lower 70s. Winds will be from the northeast at 10 miles per hour with gusts up to 15.The ultraviolet risk index is a 7, which the NWS considers high. There is no lightning threat today.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet rolled in at 5:59 a.m. High tide will arrive at 12:08 p.m., foll0wed by another low tide at 6:52 p.m.
