Ocean County Beach Weather: Sunny Skies For Labor Day

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies today, with a low risk of rip currents on Ocean County beaches.

This is it, folks. It's the unofficial last day of summer at the Jersey Shore and may be the last day many beaches up and down the Jersey coast will be guarded.

Highs today will only be in the upper 70s, not much warmer than the expected surf temperatures of 71 degrees. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour.

Waves heights will be around 3 feet, with southeast swells of 2 feet. There's a low risk of rip currents today, but that doesn't mean you should let your guard down. Rips can still occur near jetties and other structures. The NWS suggests you bring a flotation device with you if you're going swimming.

Never swim on an unguarded beach. It took multiple beach patrols and police to save three swimmers on a Long Beach Township beach from a rip current Sunday. Never swim alone or a night.

The ultraviolet index is a 7, which the NWS considers high. So bring the sunscreen. There is no lightning threat today.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet rolled in at 7 a.m. Low tide will arrive at 1:10 pm. followed by another high tide at 7:14 p.m.
