Ocean County Beaches: High Risk Of Rip Currents, Stay Out Of The Water

The National Weather Service is calling for a high risk of rip currents and rough surf today on Ocean County beaches.

"A high risk of rip currents means dangerous and potentially life-threatening conditions exist for all people entering the surf," the NWS said in daily surf forecast. "People visiting the beaches should stay out of the high surf."

Waves will be from 4 to 6 feet high, with easterly swells of 5 feet, much higher than recent days. The ocean water temperature is 75 degrees.

Skies today will be mostly sunny, with high in the mid-70s. Winds will be from the east at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

The ultraviolet is a 7, which the NWS considers high, so bring the sunscreen if you're just going to sit on the beach. There is no lightning threat today.

There's a possibility that some areas could experience minor tidal flooding with the Tuesday afternoon or overnight high tides, depending on the track and strengthen of a low pressure system to the south, the NWS says.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet rolled in at 7:23 a.m. High tide will arrive at 1:35 p.m., followed by another low tide at 8:02 p.m.
