Pedestrian Airlifted After Being Hit On Route 9 In Berkeley, Police Say

The woman was hit by a car after stepping into traffic on Route 9 Tuesday morning, according to Berkeley police.

BERKELEY, NJ — A pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday morning after she was struck by a vehicle on Route 9, Berkeley police said.

The woman had walked into traffic near 170 Route 9 and was hit by a vehicle at about 9:30 a.m., police said. After she was struck, she was pushed back into the road's shoulder, police said.

First responders determined that her injuries were severe enough that she needed to be airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, police said. She was airlifted without incident from a nearby landing zone.

The vehicle's driver was evaluated on the scene and refused further treatment.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
