Power Restored To All Southern Ocean County Towns, Officials Say

More than 24,000 customers were without power at the height of the outage.

The lights are on and the air conditioners are humming. Power has been restored to more than 24,000 Jersey Central Power and Light customer after a large outage in the Southern Ocean County area late Sunday afternoon.

The problem was with a downed transmission line in the area of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant substation, said JCP&L spokesman Scott Takac.

Power was gradually be restored by sections, early Sunday evening, with what the company calls a "staged restoration," Takac said.

Takac reported that at the height of the outage, more 24,000 customer are affected, with 10, 517 in Lacey Township, 7,867 in Barnegat, and 5,002 in Ocean Township. There were 690 customers affected in Berkeley Township.
