Rip Current Risk And Lightning Threat At Ocean County Beaches Increases

Tropical Storm Gert Is several hundred miles offshore, but its effects will still be felt.

The National Weather Service is calling for a moderate risk of rip currents today, along with an increased lightning threat.

Check with your local beach patrol before you go in the water. Always swim on a guarded beach and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you bring a flotation device with you in the water.

Skies will be cloudy today, with showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms. The thunderstorm risk is moderate. The ultraviolet index is a 5 today, which the NWS also considers moderate.

Waves will from 3 to 4 feet, with southeast swells around 2 feet. The ocean water temperature is 76 degrees. Winds will be from the southeast winds around 5 miles per hour.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet rolled in at 8:13 a.m. High tide will arrive at 2:25 p.m, followed by another low tide at 9:17 p.m.
