School Supplies Giveaway Held At Berkeley Church

BERKELEY, NJ — Kids who are in need won't have to go without this school year. Several local organizations are joining together for this year's "Backpack Fun Day," a charity giveaway of school supplies.

New Hope Baptist Church of Manitou Park, Living Water Community Church and O.C.E.A.N., Inc. are sponsoring the event where backpacks and school supplies will be free to any child or teenager who needs them.

Last year, more than 100 backpacks and supplies were given away, the event's organizers told Patch.

Last year's event also had food and games, with a free raffle and the Manitou Park Fire Department bringing their truck being some of the highlights.

This year, organizers want to do even more. The event is not just for those in the Manitou Park community, it is for anyone who is in need.

This year's Backpack Fun Day will be held on Aug. 20 at New Hope Baptist Church of Manitou Park, 171 11th Street, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
