Seaside Heights Beach Patrol Mourning Another Loss Of One Of Their Own

Services for popular lifeguard will be held on Friday in Seaside Park.

Just months after the close-knit Seaside Heights Beach Patrol lost one of their members, they are mourning the loss of another.

Gregory Fazekas, 23, a popular beach patrol member, died on Sept. 9, according to his obituary posted on the patrol's Facebook page.

"SHBP is devastated by the loss of our friend and lifeguard Greg Fazekas," the post states. "Gregory was an outstanding employee and a great lifeguard along with being everybody's friend. He will forever be deeply missed by all. We're just all in shock of his sudden passing."

The cause of the young man's death has not been disclosed.

The beach patrol will meet at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16 for all past and present lifeguards at the North End headquarters to discuss "the recent tragedy and provide help to anyone who needs it,," the post states. "Losing a member of our family is not easy for anyone. Please do your best to attend."

Beach Patrol member Brian M. Kurinzi, 20, of Toms River, died on March 8, 2017. The cause of his death was not revealed either.

Here is Gregory's obituary:

Gregory M. Fazekas, 23, of Asbury, NJ died on Saturday September 9, 2017 in Lavallette, NJ. He was born on July 16, 1994, in Elizabeth, and lived in Asbury and at Ortley Beach, during the summer months. Gregory was a student of Rutgers University for engineering and was a member of the Seaside Heights Beach Patrol for four years.

He was an avid ski racer, he loved to surf and he traveled to Morocco, Bali, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, for surfing trips. He loved to travel, and made friends wherever he went. Some of his most memorable trips were to Germany, Italy, Cuba, Ireland, England and Singapore.

He is survived by his parents Gregg and Concetta Fazekas of Asbury Park, his brother Philip “Phil” Fazekas of Asbury, and his maternal grandmother Rosetta Venezia-Campione.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 Central Ave. Seaside Park, NJ. A 7 p.m. service will be held.
