Seaside Heights Beach Patrol Tryouts Beginning Soon

All participants must swim 20 laps in ten minutes

Think you've got what it takes to be a Seaside Heights lifeguard?

You can find out soon in the first part of the tryouts which start begin in April and run into May.

New applicants and returning guards will have to swim 500 meters in ten minutes without stopping. The distance swimming tests will be given at Toms River Fitness at 213 Route 37, in the K-Mart shopping plaza, according to the Seaside Heights Beach Patrol Facebook page.

The dates for the United States Lifeguard Association Swim Test will be held at 2 p.m. on April 30, May 14 and May 21.

Guards with no prior experience will be paid $10 a hour.

New guards will also have to pass an interview, a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation test and a first aid test, said Capt. Robert Connor.
