NJ Weather: Thunderstorms Possible All Week, Forecasters Say
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for six counties on Monday with thunderstorms and damaging winds in the latest forecast.
NEW JERSEY — Strong thunderstorms with damaging winds are expected to impact northern and central New Jersey on Monday night, according to the National Weather Service, with thunderstorms possible every day this week through Friday.
On Monday, a hazardous weather outlook was issued for Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset and Middlesex counties through Sunday. A hazardous weather outlook is issued when there is a potential for severe weather events.
Scattered severe storms are possible in the northern part of the state, the National Weather Service said on Monday. Isolated thunderstorms are possible as far south as Camden and Little Egg Harbor.

A dry and warm day is expected during the day, but the chance for storms increases tonight, mostly late this evening into the overnight. Dry and warm temperatures are expected during the daytime on Monday, but forecasters say showers and storms are likely after midnight and through the overnight hours. While rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected, there could be higher amounts locally.
“There is a risk that some of the storms could be severe with the primary hazard of damaging winds. The highest risk for this is along and north of the Interstate 78 corridor,” the service said.

Even if strong thunderstorms develop, the weather service says atmospheric conditions aren’t conducive to excessive rainfall or tornadoes.
Forecasters say rain is less likely on Tuesday with highs reaching the low 80s, with a slightly higher chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday with highs approaching the upper 80s.
The end of the week could see even more stormy weather as there’s also chance of showers on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Monday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.
Friday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
