Two New Berkeley Police Officers Sworn In At Council Meeting

Berkeley police department's hiring trend continues with the addition of the latest officers.

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - The township is continuing to add more police officers to the police department.

Two new police officers were sworn in at last night's Township Council meeting, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said.

Sean Varady of Toms River has eight years of law enforcement experience. He started in 2010, first as a Class 1 officer, then as a Class 2 officer for the Seaside Heights Police Department after he graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy.

He was hired as a full-time police officer with the Camden County Police Department in 2013, then transferred back to the Seaside Heights police department in 2015. He graduated from Ocean County College with an associated degree in criminal justice.

Michael Drybola of Lakehurst has six years of law enforcement experience. He began as a Class 1 special officer in 2012 and worked for both the Beach Haven and Mantoloking police departments. He was hired as a full-time officer for the Lakehurst Police Department and graduated from the Atlantic County Police Academy.

The township hired six officers back in 2017, primarily to fill vacancies left by retirements. Officials announced in January they were adding five more officers who had recently graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy.
