Unlicensed Berkeley Man Admits Badly Injuring Teen Bicyclist In Hit-And-Run

Michael P. Gable was unlicensed at the time he crashed into a 17-year-old riding an e-bike in Beachwood; he then drove off without stopping.

BERKELEY, NJ — A Berkeley Township man has admitted to hitting and badly injuring a 17-year-old on an e-bike without having a driver's license.

Michael P. Gable, 56, pleaded guilty on July 14 to causing serious bodily injury to another person while driving unlicensed in connection with the April 30, 2025 crash in Beachwood, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. At the time of Gable's sentencing on Aug. 29, 2025, the state will seek a sentence of 364 days in Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation.

The crash occurred in the area of Mizzen Avenue and Locker Street, Billhimer said. The 17-year-old was heading north on Locker Street when he was struck at the intersection by a vehicle going eastbound, Billhimer said.

That car kept driving east, not stopping or calling local authorities for assistance, Billhimer said.

The teenager was seriously injured and was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center; he was treated and released, Billhimer said.

Investigation found that Gable was the one driving at the time of the crash and that he was unlicensed, Billhimer said.

Gable has been in Ocean County Jail since he was charged.
