US Mail Box Truck Hits 4 Parked Vehicles, Overturns In Ocean County

BERKELEY, NJ — A U.S. Postal Service box truck carrying mail damaged four vehicles and overturned on Veterans Boulevard on Saturday morning, injuring the driver, police said.

The crash was reported at 5:35 a.m. on the 300 block of Veterans Boulevard, Berkeley Township police said.

Police said the 30-foot box truck was headed east on Veterans Boulevard when the driver hit a parked vehicle in front of 371 Veterans Blvd. near the shoulder of the road. After hitting the vehicle, the truck skidded more than 200 feet and went onto the front lawn of 369 Veterans Blvd. and hit two more vehicles that were parked in the driveway, police said.

The truck then pushed those vehicles into a vehicle parked in front of 363 Veterans Blvd. before the mail truck turned onto its left side in the driveway of 369 Veterans Blvd., police said.

The truck caused damage to both properties but did not cause structural damage to either home, police said. Photos posted to social media by Trevor Behrman showed mail bins and packages spilling out of the crashed truck.

The driver, who was not identified, suffered lacerations to his whole body, police said. He also complained of hand pain and said he had hit his head but did not lose consciousness, police said.

He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment by Berkeley Township EMS, police said.

Accurate Towing removed all five vehicles from the scene, police said. Veterans Boulevard was closed in both directions for about three hours while the crash was being investigated, police said.

Patrolman Tyler Shan of the Berkeley Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau is investigating.
