Brick Residents Urged To Move Vehicles Amid Coastal Flood Warning

A storm moving up the Atlantic coast is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds and moderate flooding in low-lying areas.

BRICK, NJ — Brick Township police are urging residents to take precautions ahead of an oncoming storm that is predicted to cause coastal flooding and pack strong winds beginning Friday night.

The National Weather Service on Friday morning upgraded its coastal flood watch for the area to a warning, with moderate to major coastal flooding predicted for the afternoon/evening high tide on Saturday.

For residents of "low-lying areas near the immediate coast, now is the time to be prepared," the weather service said.

Brick police said residents who live in flood-prone parts of the township should move their vehicles to higher ground.

Vehicles can be parked at Angela Hibbard Park, 616 Drum Point Road; Edmund Hibbard Park, 54 Tiller Lane; Windward Beach Park on Princeton Avenue; Midstreams Elementary School, 500 Midstreams Road, and at the overflow parking lot for Brick Beach III, between the southbound and northbound lanes on Route 35.

The greatest concern for flooding is Saturday afternoon around high tide, approximately 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., police said.

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to start late Friday night, with winds up to 50 mph, according to the 6 p.m. Thursday forecast from the National Weather Service.

"Please consider avoiding any unnecessary travel on the roads, and if you must go out, practice caution and allow for extra travel time," police said.
