SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — An extreme heat watch has been issued for Somerset County from Monday through Wednesday night.

Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 106 are possible in Somerset County, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to be around 100 degrees from June 23 through June 25.

Here is a look at the forecast for next week:

  • Monday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100.
  • Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 76.
  • Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 100.
  • Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 76.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

To prepare for the heat, residents are recommended to take the following actions:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
  • Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
