Millburn Deli's New Bridgewater Commons Location Is Now Open

Basking Ridge resident and Owner Andrew Morgan grew up going to the mall as a teen. Now he is bringing his popular sandwich shop back home.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Millburn Deli, the highly anticipated sandwich shop, has officially opened its newest location in The Village at Bridgewater Commons.

Basking Ridge resident and Millburn Deli owner Andrew Morgan grew up going to the mall as a teen so it was only fitting to open his newest location in his home county.

"I grew up in Basking Ridge, so the Bridgewater Mall was always like a place where we went when we were in high school," said Morgan. "So for me, it's kind of really cool to finally be moving in the westward direction where I've always grown up and known. Yeah, it was sort of like serendipitous."

Millburn Deli, a regional mainstay offering classic chicken, beef, turkey, and "vegetarian-ish" sandwiches and salads, opened last week in a 2,233 square foot space across from Cava Grill off Commons Way.

This will be Millburn Deli's first Somerset County location. Other locations are in Millburn, Morristown, Montclair, and Westfield.

The original Millburn Deli first opened in 1946. Morgan's family purchased the business in 1991 from the Jacobs family.

"My family bought it when I was 12 years old. And, you know, old school-style put me right to work," said Morgan.

Morgan started by scrubbing dishes, mopping floors, filling soda cases, and filling iced tea bottles.

"We do our own homemade iced tea. So they started me very much from the bottom, I had to do all of those things. And then when I mastered that, I got to go be a cashier for a year. And then when I mastered being a cashier, I got to be a sandwich maker. And it was like a slow progression," said Morgan. "I don't know if it was intentional or not, or just through the needs of the business, but I was brought up very much understanding the business from the ground up."

Now Morgan is proud to open his newest location in Bridgewater which offers a new logo, design, new seating inside, and digital billboards.

"Bridgewater will actually be the first store like in this new design," said Morgan.

And Morgan plans to continue this new model with future store openings. He has one in the works in Jersey City slated to open in the late fall.

"My goal is to have 100 shops," said Morgan.
