Burglar Who Fought Homeowner Charged, Still on the Loose, Police Say

Jon D. Padula faces four separate charges related to an incident Wednesday morning.

A burglar who fought with a homeowner in the Colwick section of the township Wednesday morning has been identified and charged, but remains on the loose, Cherry Hill Police said Friday.

Jon D. Padula, 22, of the unit block of Willis Avenue in Pennsauken, was trying to leave a home in the unit block of St. Davids Road when the homeowner confronted him, police said, leading to the fight, during which Padula allegedly threatened to stab the homeowner with a screwdriver.

Padula broke loose from the fight, police said, dropped what he was trying to steal and took off in a red Suzuki.

An investigation of the incident led to detectives identifying Padula and charging him with burglary, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of burglary tools.

He remains at large and may be in Pennsylvania at this point, police said, though warrants have been issued for Padula’s arrest.
